My name is Samantha Kirby,
The owner and photographer of SMK Photography. My photography is inspired by empathy, ingenuity, and connections with others. I view photography as a means of honoring people—to document their identities, emotions, and life stories—rather than merely as an art form. My goal is to produce photos that capture authentic moments and true feelings, whether I'm shooting a graduating senior, a growing family, or someone gaining confidence as a model.
I care deeply about the people I photograph. I approach every session with consideration and respect because I am dedicated to the people I work with, creating a positive, secure space where people may be who they really are. I'm particularly drawn to milestone moments—those fleeting moments that are so full of significance—and I want to capture them in a way that seems timeless and genuine.
I love to think creatively and come up with innovative ways to use composition, light, and emotion to convey a story. Along with being deliberate and detail-oriented, I know how small details, such as a favorite spot, a unique object, or a particular attitude, can turn a photograph from lovely to remarkable.
I know how to calmly and purposefully adapt to changing weather, irritable kids, and heightened emotions. I view photography as an adventure, much like life, and I'm always prepared to approach it with passion and consideration.
In the end, I want each customer to feel appreciated, honored, and seen. I am proud to be a photographer because the individuals I capture are more than simply subjects; they are stories worth sharing.
“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” — Aaron Siskind
